Bamboo Cutting Board Video

As many people turn to more green and sustainable products, the bamboo cutting board has experienced a lot of popularity.

Two of the industry leaders are the Totally Bamboo cutting board line and the Island bamboo cutting board, but I've been pleased with my AnJi City end grain bamboo cutting board, which I got from the Cutting Board Company.

I have the large bamboo cutting board and the small bamboo cutting board, and both are perfect for chopping and presentation.

End grain bamboo cutting boards are easier on your knives because the knife slides between the end fibers instead of slicing across the top surface fibers.

Bamboo is actually a grass, but it's about 15 percent harder than maple wood. Since it's difficult to glue, you might experience some separation when you get your bamboo cutting boards wet.

For proper maintenance, be sure to season your bamboo cutting board once a day for the first week with a bamboo cutting board oil. I recommend a food-grade mineral oil for best results.

To do this, pour a small pool of mineral oil onto your board and coat the surface well on the front back and sides. You can use your hands, or a soft dish towel. Allow it to thoroughly penetrate the board for about 15 minutes or up to an hour, then rub off the excess with a soft cloth.

To clean your bamboo cutting board, wipe it with a soapy sponge and dry it off immediately. Continue seasoning the board with mineral oil at least once a month for the duration of its life.
