Along with the chef knife, the cutting board is probably the most used kitchen tool in the home.
In the market for some new cutting boards? Here are a few tips about choosing the right cutting board for your home.
Today, the most commonly used kitchen cutting board s made of hard plastic, whether you work in a restaurant kitchen or cook at home. The bamboo cutting board and glass cutting board are now available in stores, but neither have the flexibility you'll find with plastic.
Plastic cutting boards might be harder on a knife blade than a traditional wood cutting board, but they are a lot more sanitary. I like using plastic cutting boards because they're portable, easy to clean and easy to store.
Traditional wood cutting boards are porous, which can trap harmful bacteria that are present in some foods.
Here's a tip: If your plastic cutting boards slide around on your work surface, just put two cloth or wet paper towels underneath your cutting board, which secures it to your work surface. It will make things a lot safer around the kitchen.
